Dr. Umaki may use antibiotics that are capable of releasing high concentrations of medication into the infected area for up to 14 days. The basic premise is that concentrated amounts of active medications can be delivered to the precise site of the disease process with minimal systemic uptake of medication. Usually this localized antibiotic is combined with scaling and root planing to remove plaque buildup and bacteria from the infected area around the teeth. Dr. Umaki will utilize the most conservative treatment method possible but if surgery is needed, will limit surgery to areas where absolutely necessary.
